Trusting God in Uncertain Times
Written by Justine Nagawa
Life often feels like a series of questions and uncertainties. We find ourselves asking, “What if God doesn’t come through for me?” or “What if I try and fail?” or even “What if this never works out?” These “what if” questions can consume our minds, fueling fear and doubt that make it hard to move forward.
Today, I want to remind you of a powerful truth: no matter what the future holds, God is in control. His promises are unchanging, and His love for us is unwavering. Living in fear of the unknown is a natural human response, but as believers, we are called to trust in the One who holds our future.
The Reality of Uncertainty
It’s normal to feel anxious about the future. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes, despite our best efforts, things don’t go as planned. We face disappointment, rejection, and setbacks. During these times, our faith can be tested. But it’s in these moments that our trust in God can grow stronger.
The Bible acknowledges our fears and encourages us to lean on God's promises. In Psalm 56:3-4, David says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid.” His words remind us that even in our fear, we can choose to trust God and find peace.
Choosing Faith Over Fear
Living by faith doesn’t mean ignoring our fears; it means choosing to trust God despite them. It’s about believing that He is good, that He cares for us, and that His plans are better than ours. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” We may not see the full picture now, but God’s plan is perfect, even when it’s hidden from our view.
We need to surrender our “what ifs” and trust that He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
Praising Beyond the Problem
One of the most powerful acts of faith is praise, even amid uncertainty. Paul and Silas sang hymns in prison (Acts 16:25), and their praise opened the door for their freedom. Praise shifts our focus from our problems to God’s greatness. Even if God doesn’t do what we hope for in our timing, we can still praise Him because He is worthy.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Paul encourages us, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Living with Hope and Confidence
So, how do we move forward with courage?
Continue to pray and seek God’s presence.
Meditate on God’s promises.
Surround yourself with faith-filled individuals.
Practice gratitude.
Trust in God’s timing. Remember, delays are not denials. God’s perfect plan unfolds in His perfect time. Whatever your situation—whether you face financial struggles, relationship challenges, health issues, or uncertain futures—know that God is with you. He sees everything, and His plans for you are good.
Keep believing. Keep praising. Keep trusting. Even if He doesn’t do what you expect, God is still worthy of your praise. His love endures forever, and His promises are yes and amen.
May your heart be filled with peace as you surrender your fears to Him, knowing that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. (Philippians 1:6).
You are not alone. God is with you, and He will see you through.
