In His Time

Written by Bethany Lethbridge

Matthew 6:34, 'Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.'

Such a seemingly simple command, but one that is so difficult to obey! How often do we borrow tomorrow's troubles today?

I am due with my fourth child in a couple of days, but delivery could happen at any time. It is a waiting game. Although I have gone through labour and delivery before, it is something I am always anxious about. I long to be on the other side, in the recovery phase, to skip the messy and painful bits!

I need to encourage myself by reminding myself that God has seen me through this before. He was with me in my past labour and deliveries, and He is with me now. I don't need the peace and strength for labour and delivery now because I am not experiencing it now. When that time comes, I have to believe that God will provide me with what I need as I need it.

Of course, we would always like to have the things we need before we need them because it is reassuring to know they are there. However, God does not usually provide us with what we need before we have need of it. His timing is always perfect. We need to trust, and have faith, that God will do what He says He will, because He does, every single time, without fail.

What are you waiting on God for? Is there anything you are anxious for or troubled about?

I suggest that you meditate on Philippians 4:6-7, 19—'Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. . . And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.'
